Choosing a brand new kitten?
Where to start? Here are our top tips on choosing your new companion:
- Research the breed
- Consider other pets in your home
- Where will you get your cat from? A shelter, breeder, private?
- Meet the kitten’s parents (if buying from a breeder)
Some kittens might need a little extra help with their nutrition; maybe they are from a large litter or your vet has noticed a slow growth rate, Beaphar Lactol s an ideal supplement.
Bringing your cat home
Just before you bring your bundle of fur home, make sure that you remove any hazards or safety check areas that might be dangerous for your kitty. Cats are notorious for their curious nature and can often be found in places that you least expect them!
- Get down on their level, crawl on the floor at what would be your cat’s level (or as close as!).
- Check for small objects, hanging wires and anything that looks like a fun game for your kitty.
- Keep cleaning products and hazardous materials locked away.
- Flowers, such as lilies and tulips, must be kept away as they are toxic.
Bringing your new cat home is an exciting and daunting time! While you may have butterflies in your tummy, the change can cause your kitty to experience an upset tummy.
Beaphar IntestoPro supports your cat through this period and help restore normal bowel movements.
Your new feline friend is bound to be timid when they come home. To help them ease in, make sure that they have a safe space to hide and one that is theirs. You can help them settle in with the help of the Beaphar calming range, which includes the pheromone products already mentioned, as well as a range of valerian-based natural remedies. From sprays, to diffusers, spot-ons, and tablets, you can find the right solution for you and your kitty.
Routine care for your cat
- Dental care is extremely important. With 80% of our pets suffering from dental issues by the age of three, it is so important to keep on top of your pet’s dental care routine. The ‘Gold Standard’ of dental care is daily brushing with the Beaphar Toothbrush and Toothpaste Kit.
- As already mentioned, ear and eye care are often overlooked but can be important indicators of other conditions affecting your pet . Keep ears and eyes healthy by regular care with products such as the Beaphar Ear Cleaner and Beaphar Eye Gel, to keep them in tip-top condition.
- You will also need to map out a future worming programme, as worms can re-infect your pet throughout its life.
The great outdoors
If you have decided to allow your cat outside, make sure you are prepared with flea and tick treatments, as these parasites can cause unnecessary distress for your pet.
A simple monthly flea and tick treatment – such as Beaphar FIPROtec® Spot-On to combat fleas or FIPROtec® COMBO that fights fleas, ticks and biting insects – is essential for the health and wellbeing of your pet.
