FAQ
Beaphar DIMETHIcare: tackle fleas and ticks without insecticides
DIMETHIcare is the ideal solution if you are looking for an alternative way to stop pests or to help dogs and cats with an existing infestation. The extensive range offers the right approach for every pest problem. The basis of these products is dimethicone. This substance is not an insecticide, but it inhibits pests in their movement, causing them to become immobilized.
What is in Dimethicare Shampoo?
Dimethicon: The main component of the DIMETHIcare Shampoo is dimethicone, a type of silicone. When pests (eg fleas & ticks) come into contact with this substance, a sticky layer forms and the joints are blocked. Movement becomes impossible for the parasites and they fall from their host or can easily be brushed out. Pests are also immobilized when used in the environment. Dimethicone is non-toxic and not an insecticide, its action is purely mechanical. Because insects and mites need to move in order to breathe, when they are immobilized by dimethicone, they will eventually die.
Aloe vera: DIMETHIcare Shampoo for the animal contain a duo complex of aloe vera with dimethicone. Aloe vera has a beneficial effect on the recovery of the skin from insect bites and is known for its antibacterial effect. Due to the faster recovery and the caring effect, the skin will be less irritated and an animal will scratch less.
Does DIMETHIcare products make the coat sticky?
No, the coat does not get sticky. Dimethicone is so fine that it has a soothing effect on the fur of animals. However, it easily penetrates into the joints in pests where they provide a blocking effect.
Is DIMETHIcare resistant to washing or getting wet?
After washing or when an animal has been swimming, Dimethicone is rinsed out and the treatment will have to be repeated.
Does the floor become slippery when treated with an environmental spray?
As long as the DIMETHIcare environmental spray has not yet dried, it is possible that the floor in those places is temporarily slippery than normal. After drying, the floor can be walked on normally.
What happens if the animal licks DIMETHIcare?
It is not harmful when the drops are licked. There are also various (veterinary) medicines available for internal use with the same active ingredient.
Which product should I use in an area with high flea and tick pressure?
When there is a very high flea pressure from the environment of the animal, it is advisable to use the spray. The spray is applied all over the body and thus works immediately, while the Line-On takes time to spread. However, for preventive treatments the Line-On pipettes are ideal.
Is an animal that has been treated still stung?
Because Dimethicone creates a nurturing layer on the coat, pests will usually be immobilized before reaching the skin.
Does the pest that is immobilized fall directly from the fur?
Vermin that has come into contact with Dimethicon often falls out immediately, but sometimes they still remain. However, they will no longer bite/sting because they are immobilized. They can be easily removed by brushing.
Why Beaphar COMBOtec Spot-On?
With a flea infestation, only 5% of the fleas are on your animal, the other 95% are in the environment (in the house). Beaphar COMBOtec Spot-On combines 2 highly effective active ingredients to kill fleas, ticks and biting lice and to prevent new infestations in the environment, such as crate / basket and blankets.
How does Beaphar COMBOtec Spot-On work?
Beaphar COMBOtec Spot-On contains 2 active substances: Fipronil and S-Methoprene. After applying the liquid to the skin in the neck, the active substances spread over your pet via the fat layer of the skin. The drops are non-systemic, which means that the active substances are not absorbed into the bloodstream. Parasites are killed by skin contact, so they don’t have to bite.
- Kills fleas, ticks and biting lice on dogs and cats
Fipronil kills all adult parasites. When an adult flea, tick or biting louse comes into contact with this active substance, they will die very quickly. This ingredient has been used safely in dogs and cats for more than 20 years to combat parasites.
- Protects the environment of the treated animal
- The second active ingredient S-Methoprene is an IGR, an insect growth regulator. This prevents fleas from developing to their next stage of life. In this way they cannot mature and therefore no longer reproduce.
S-Methoprene works in 2 ways:
- Flea eggs that have come into contact will not hatch.
· Larvae that are already present in the environment also come into contact with S-Methoprene, because they feed on, among other things, skin cells that have fallen off from dogs and cats. As a result, they can no longer develop into flea dolls.

Beaphar COMBOtec Spot-On is suitable for cats and kittens from 8 weeks of age and weighing more than 1kg.
What happens if the animal licks DIMETHIcare?
Fipronil kills fleas by affecting their nervous system and inducing hyperactivity. During this hyperactive stage, fleas become more active meaning you appear to see ‘more fleas’ on your pet. In fact, these are the existing fleas on your cat or dog trying to ‘get away’ from the flea treatment. They often crawl to the top of your pet’s coat, becoming more visible before they die.
95% of a flea infestation is in your home. It’s possible you’re seeing more fleas because you’re only treating your pet. To truly overcome a flea infestation, you need to treat your home with a household flea product.
Why do I see more fleas after treating my cat or dog with Beaphar COMBOtec Spot-On?
When there is a very high flea pressure from the environment of the animal, it is advisable to use the spray. The spray is applied all over the body and thus works immediately, while the Line-On takes time to spread. However, for preventive treatments the Line-On pipettes are ideal.
